Avery Berkel's new IX series is a complete range of retail printing scales, purpose-designed to provide label, receipt and self-service capabilities to suit the modern store.
The IX100 and IX202 models provide pre-pack, label and receipt printing from one compact unit. This significantly reduces the cost of ownership as retailers can purchase a single scale capable of meeting the wide variety of counter service requirements, instead of several.
The IX212 is a receipt-printing model, offering fast and high-quality printing at the point of sale. A variety of information can be displayed on the receipt including totals and product descriptions, plus more specific data such as ingredient and traceability information, helping to build consumer confidence and encouraging repeat custom.
The IX302 self-service scale offers the local retailer the opportunity to increase efficiency and to give customers more control over the time they spend in store. Ideal for fresh produce weighing, customers just place the item to be weighed on the scale and select the appropriate key, and the display confirms the product description, weight and price to pay, before issuing the label. The customer keyboard can represent up to 56 produce lines, and the scale is supplied with a double-key keyboard overlay, which enables retailers to create up to 22 larger, more prominent keys.
Equipment space is often at a premium in the smaller, local store where retailers need to retain counter areas for product rather than hardware. The IX series comes complete with cash drawer and barcode scanner interfaces as standard, transforming the scale into a compact counter service unit capable of weighing, pricing and labelling items before registering the transaction and issuing a receipt.
All models provide superb print quality via the easy-access, fast-loading thermal printer which includes a take-up spool for the backing paper. It can handle label or receipt paper rolls of 100 mm diameter and up to 60 mm in width.
Depending on the model, scales feature either integral or column-mounted displays which are backlit to provide clear indication of product description and price to the operator and the customer. A maximum of 1000 products and prices can be stored which are recalled by a simple key press. The keyboard is wipe clean and provides an audible bleep for operator reassurance with every key press.
With the IX100 and IX202, a total of nine scales can be linked together and up to eight operators can be programmed. This feature enhances customer service, enabling operators to serve customers from any scale position and then to print a totals receipt when the customer has finished selecting.
RS232 link to a PC is provided for data management. Management reports including PLU information, group and operator totals are available to be printed from any scale.
Optional extras include a choice of scoops, a slimline cash drawer and rechargeable internal battery power. IX scales may even be powered by a car or truck battery using the optional external battery kit, ideal for use on market stalls and mobile trading vehicles.
