Avery Berkel is introducing a new concept in meat slicing with the launch of two ranges of slicers from the Berkel brand. Key design objectives for the Futura and Premier ranges were to deliver increased cutting capacity while taking up less counter space and to improve the speed and ease of cleaning.
Traditionally, retailers specify slicers based on blade dimensions – the larger the meat product the bigger the blade needed. The new slicers are available in just three sizes; medium, large and extra large, each of which has a smaller base that takes up less counter space than competitors’ products
The new Berkel machines can slice all the meat products on the counter, from a large ham to a soft pâté and a new knife design provides consistent quality slicing.
Both ranges are designed to encourage maximum hygiene by simplifying cleaning routines. They can be thoroughly cleaned in just 8 minutes, almost half the time taken to clean other slicers. Operators can reach between the knife and the motor housing, typically the hardest place to clean on a slicer. Easy to remove parts such as the knife cover, pin plates and meat table, plus smooth curved edges ensure that no debris is trapped. A knife remover is supplied as standard.
Three pin plates are available to hold the meat stable, for a better quality slice and less wastage; one for cooked meats, one more suitable for meat products such as salami and another for soft products such as pâté. The slicers can be supplied as either gravity feed or straight feed according to preference.
An Italian industrial designer has designed both of the new ranges to be aesthetically pleasing at a time when retailers are investing more in their store image. Constructed from high quality anodised aluminium they have flowing curved lines and feature contrasting red components.
