When Wolverhampton butcher, Paul Riley from Alan Bennett’s butchers won the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders’ (NFMFT) supreme product championships at this year’s Foodex Meatex show, he also became the lucky owner of an FX50 price-computing scale, donated by Avery Berkel.
As a member of the federation and a supplier of weighing equipment to many independent stores across the country, Avery Berkel was proud to be associated with the competition that promotes the diverse and high-quality range of produce sold by butchers in the UK.
The FX50 scale has proved ideal for the demands of Mr. Riley’s busy shop in Wednesfield and is being used to weigh out the ingredients used in his award-winning pork sausages and range of pies. As a result, after just one month, staff have reduced demands on the existing counter service scales, helping to limit queues and customer waiting times, especially at peak times.
Commenting on the new scale, Mr. Riley said. “We are delighted to have won the FX50 which is proving a really useful addition to the shop. The scale is very easy to use and has some really good features, such as the internal rechargeable battery. This means that we can save on electricity costs because we don’t need to have the scale plugged in to the mains all the time and, we can continue to operate, even if there is a power cut.
“In addition, the scale is very easy to clean with a washable, stainless steel weighplate and all the keys are sealed against the ingress of dirt and moisture, so we can be sure that we maintain rigorous hygiene standards too.”
The robust scale has up to 50 Price Look Up keys of which 12 are hot shot keys for frequently used items. Visibility is also good with backlit LCD displays as standard. The FX50 has a compact footprint to maximise counter space and a weighing capacity of 15 kg in 5 g increments. It is available as a single piece unit with an integral display or with an eye-level customer tower option.
