Avery Berkel has launched the IM series, a new range of aesthetic counter service scales that delivers the latest technology with full back office and storewide integration.
The scale has just received the industrial design award at the West Midlands BDI Industry and Genius Awards in December 2007, set up to recognise and reward collaborations between designers and industry as Greg Astill product manager for Avery Berkel comments:
“Food retail markets in certain countries are evolving rapidly and using technology not previously known there. We have asked major retailers in these markets for their input and they told us to keep it simple, so we did. Working with Birmingham (UK)-based H2 Product Development, we have therefore designed an aesthetic scale range that is simple to use, simple to install and simple to connect.”
“While we have incorporated the latest technology in the IM series, we’ve also made sure it’s environmentally friendly, and have developed a scale that is RoHS compliant and consumes up to twenty percent less power than previous models.”
The new scales have a logical, tactile keyboard that helps to prevent user error, with the bright blue graphic display ensuring that all of the data is presented clearly to both the operator and the customer. Each scale has a memory for 6000 Price Look Ups (PLUs) as standard and up to 60 ‘hotkeys’ can be programmed with a combination of PLUs and frequently used functions to help speed service times and reduce queue lengths. The range also supports current and future RSS bar code standards.
Five models are available in the new range to fit any counter or checkout arrangement, including a compact hanging scale. Each has a very small footprint and an eye-catching design that complements modern shop layouts.
The scales can also be linked together easily to form part of a larger store or company wide network, with Ethernet communications fitted as standard and wirefree RF communications available as an option.
Combining the scales with software from Avery Berkel makes it easier to manage data. Automated PLU updates from a single, central location, automatic reporting of totals back to the store or company server, label and keyboard design and traceability scheme set up are some of the advanced features available.
Continues Astill: “ The IM range provides an effective business tool that is designed to make life easy for both the operator and the retailer. It can also be used to handle the latest traceability legislation, act as a packing machine and display eye-catching promotional messages when not in use. In short we have listened to what retailers need and designed a scale accordingly.”
